Authentication Outbound-LinksMany content management systems generate too many links on each page of the site. They seem to do this because it is easy for the CMS developer. These links rarely use relevant anchor text and can distribute PageRank and visitors in undesirable ways. Start by removing links to moderators, user profiles and member lists. There are malicious robots out there that can search member lists to extract email addresses to use for sending spam emails. Each outbound-link is a possibility for the user to exit the page, so focus the user and search engine robots on the site's content and not extraneous information. If these links are useful make them available only to authenticated users, that way they are hidden from search engine robots. IconsIcons (small graphics) such as next or previous story buttons should either be replaced with text links or relevant ALT (alternative) text should be used in the image.
