Lulu.com ISBN Plus TimelineTo give you an idea of how lone the process of bringing a book to market takes. Sep - Nov 2004Wrote a 172 page book about Search Engine Optimization and Marketing. A lot of the information comes from posts I've made over the past year or so to bulletin boards and newsgroups. Dec 2004A house move just before Christmas puts work on hold for a bit as my computer is boxed up and I have no Internet access for a month. Very frustrating. Jan 2005Final updates to text. I proof read the book and get feedback from two other proof readers. 25 Jan 2005Final PDF prepared for publishing and uploading. Disk arrives with cover art. Upload is done fairly painlessly in an hour. Order proof copy of book. Book is showing on Barnes and Noble but with no availability. 21 Feb 2005I make about 70 further corrections based on the proof copy. Some minor changes to cover art. I upload new art and PDFs. Order a second proof book and confirm ISBN plus. As the initial process went so smoothly I take the risk that the book will be okay with the changes. 1st May 2005A review of the ABC of SEO by the TechBookReport has been quite widely republished. Shortly after this the sales rank on Amazon.com went to 25,149 and on Amazon.co.uk to 83,242. Amazon obviously ran out of stock as shipping times leapt to 13 days.
9th May 2005Search Inside has gone live on Amazon.com. The sales rank is 342,734 today so it will be interesting to see what effect this has. It doesn't yet seem to have any of the book indexed. 16th May 2005The Search Inside feature of the ABC of SEO now seems to be fully enabled and returning pages in the main Amazon search. The book's rank on Amazon has been as high as 15,000 over the last few days and it has been consitently sold out. Whether this is the effect of Search Inside I can't say for sure. June 2005The ABC of SEO is now listed on Half.com, part of eBay but there are no details. Time to beep them again with the book information. After three weeks on Amazon's search inside sales this month have quadrupled for the US. So it seems Search Inside is worthwhile. The book has been consistently in Lulu's Amazon top 10 list. All this popularity means that it is frequently out of stock on Amazon, does this affect sales? 28 June 2005Issued the following Press Release through PR Web Search engine marketing game gets harder but many don’t even do the basicsAccording to David George, author of the ABC of SEO (ISBN: 1411622510) the search engine marketing game keeps getting harder as popular search engines such as Google tweak their software. “Search Engine Optimization (SEO) used to be a free lunch for many commercial websites”, says George “by using dubious or aggressive optimization a site could boost its rankings in search engine results, done well this was hugely valuable source of free advertising”. The problem was that many relevant informational sites were forced out of
search engine results; this affected their quality and the overall user
experience. Google, now a multi-billion dollar publicly quoted company that
makes money on targeted advertising had to act, or lose both searchers and
customers. Google is threatened by both Yahoo! which switched from Google to its
own search engine last year and from the new Microsoft search engine. Microsoft
missed out on the boom of content targeted advertising and wants in on what
promises to be one of the Web’s growth areas. 4th July 2005Finally got around to updating Amazon.ca listing. Not surprisingly I have no sales through Amazon Canada!
2nd December 2005Sales been very good. The ABC of SEO is now in Lulu.com's top 50 books. Google PrintFinally the book has made it into Google Print. But, and it is a biggie, it is showing up with the details of a book I wrote more than 10 years ago which is probably not even in print. The ABC of SEOSearch Engine Optimization Strategies and Marketing. |
