Geographic Information

Geographic information shows where visitors are located. At its simplest, log analysis software will use the top-level domain name (TLD) such as .uk, .fr, .com to identify the user's location. More complex analysis uses the numeric IP address, these are assigned by bodies that coordinate the Internet in blocks to certain geographic locations. If your web site is aimed at North-American visitors then users from other countries are consuming bandwidth without adding to revenue. With something as global as the Internet incidental visitors can't be avoided but it could be that the site content and inbound-links require work.

Similarly if you wish to appeal to other markets then you may need to create pages in the local language and target regional search engines and directories, for example Voila for France or Google UK.
