Optimization Specifics for Yahoo!

Before Yahoo! switched to its Overture/Inktomi search engine in February 2004 optimizing for Google also had the benefit of optimizing for Yahoo!. With its new search engine Yahoo! favors on-page optimizations. Keywords in titles, keywords in Uniform Resource Locators and keyword density in body text. Like Google, Yahoo offers a couple of query operators for exploring the search results:

intitle    - search for keywords in the title only

inurl      - search for keywords in the URL

Some weight is still attached to inbound-links. Recently Yahoo! previewed a toolbar with their version of Google's PageRank, called Web Rank. This is apparently related to inbound-links although not using Google's famous, and patented, formula. Good keywords in anchor text are also a factor. If you don't have the version of the toolbar with Web Rank Digital Point Solutions offer a Web Rank tool.

In conclusion, produce good keyword rich content for Yahoo! and concentrate on inbound-links for Google, these will also benefit Yahoo! results. Yahoo! also runs its own blog <http://www.ysearchblog.com/>. This has some general search engine buzz and information about features of Yahoo! search.
